The Cleaner will work collaboratively within the school team to ensure all facilities are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. You will be essential in creating a safe, orderly, and positive space for students, staff, and visitors. This role involves indoor and outdoor work and follows a term-time schedule, offering work-life balance and community connection.


Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, toilets, and public spaces following established cleaning protocols.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, polishers, and blowers.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum all floor surfaces.
  • Dust desks, shelves, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Collect litter and empty, wash, and replace rubbish bins and liners.
  • Remove graffiti and report any damage or hazards.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, fridges, sinks, basins, and other appliances.
  • Maintain outdoor paved areas using brooms, blowers, or hoses.
  • Secure classrooms by locking doors and windows and turning off lights.
  • Report safety concerns, maintenance issues, or inventory shortages to the Business Manager.
  • Follow safety protocols, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and materials.
  • Assist with ordering and stocking of cleaning supplies as required.

🎓 Qualifications & Skills

Mandatory:

  • Current Working with Children (Blue Card) or eligibility to obtain one (No Card, No Start Policy applies).
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role (lifting, bending, prolonged standing).
  • Awareness of Workplace Health & Safety and safe chemical handling.
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a school, hospital, or commercial cleaning environment.
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical storage procedures.
  • Experience around children or in a child-safe workplace.
